Standards

The Evidenzer® system fulfills all the requirements found in OIML R126E (1998) and clearly even exceeds OIML R126E since the requirements on evidential instruments in the Scandinavian countries are the toughest in the world.

Evaluated

Evidenzer has been evaluated by the Volpe Transportation Systems Center and found to meet the model specifications for evidential breath test instruments, as either a stationary or mobile device. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reviewed and approved the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP) for the Evidenzer.

Approved

Evidenzer is also approved according to the CE and FCC 15 requirements. Evidenzer has been tested by SP (Technical Research Institute of Sweden) and by SKL(National Swedish Forensic Laboratory). All test documentation is available in English for review for potential customers.

Detection Technology

Evidenzer is a multifilter IR system working in the 3 um range. The IR-beam in passes through the sample chamber and is focused by a lens onto the detector. In front of the detector is a rotating filter wheel, containing 5-7 IR-filters of close spectroscopic tolerances.

Dual Verification Technology

Move result verification to a new level by using our Dual Verification Technology™. When using the internal reference system together with an external dry/wet gas check before and after every evidential alcohol breath test result verification of the result is greatly improved.

Internal Reference System

Since Evidenzer® operates according to Beer Lambert´s law, it measures absolute levels of transferred IR radiation at each analyzed wavelength. In order to verify proper function of the instrument we only need to verify that the relative attenuation at each one of the filter wavelengths is the same as it was at the time for calibration.

Filters

The function of the filters is auto checked during a breath test. At the calibration each one of the filter channels are adjusted to yield the same result during a normal breath test without chemical interfering substances in the exhaled air. Hence, a too great difference between any two results indicates chemical interfering substances, and the test is aborted.

External dry/wet gas check

Using an external dry or wet gas check before and after every evidential alcohol breath test will improve result verification. It is possible to use one concentration of dry gas before the test and an other concentration after the test. Evidenzer needs less than 0.4 liter of dry gas to make an accurate measurement. A dry gas kit with two 34 liter cylinders holds gas for verification of up to 75 evidential tests. Larger cylinders are available for stationary use.

Data Management

Data storage and management are one of the very strong areas of Evidenzer. The very large data memory (up to 4 Gigabytes) allows the instrument to store all data collected during an evidential test. This includes the complete “exhalation profile” for all seven sampled wavelengths (ten samples per seconds for each wavelength). Since all data used to calculate the final result are stored, it is possible, at a later stage, to make a recalculation to verify the algorithms and the calculated result. This is very valuable in statements to courts regarding DUI charges.

Data storage

Evidenzer Mobile can store more than 10.000 complete test results in the instrument. All collected data is stored in the instrument and can be exported, via USB or LAN, to a database or to an Excel file for further evaluations.

With our advanced Data Management System together with SmartCard access control, you are able to:
– set up an infrastructure with a large number of instruments and a database
– have secure data transfer over the Internet to a database enabling data tracking
– data evaluation using advanced tools.

Robustness

Double protective shells makes it resistant to vibrations, shocks, temperature variations, and electric disturbances. The measuring unit is mounted on an aluminium profile and placed inside and bolted to the inner steel box. This caging shields the unit from electromagnetic influence. An impact resistant and heat-insulating material between the shell and the measuring unit provides protection in transportation and use. The robust design of the instrument keeps the service cost to a minimum.

Performance

Service

The robust design of the Evidenzer instrument will keep the service cost to a minimum. Evidenzer has been used since 2002 in Sweden and the statistics from SKL (National Forensic Institute) in Sweden shows that the service requirements for Evidenzer instruments are much lower than what is the case for other instruments available on the market.With annual preventive service the expected life time of the instrument is more than 20 years. During the annual preventive service a number of steps are taken to make sure that the instrument will run for an other year without interruption. The final step in the service process is to automatically verify a large numbers of parameters for 18 hours in a Service test system (see picture below).
